ODESSA -- Billy "Joe" Bassham, a loving and faithful husband, wonderful father, vibrant and colorful grandfather and true friend left this life on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996, at his eldest son's home to be with his heavenly Father and his savior, Jesus Christ. He was born Jan. 14, 1930, to Joseph Carl and Oleta Bassham. He graduated from high school in Hobbs, N.M., and went to Abilene Christian College, where he met his future wife, Virginia Lee Marshall. Joe and Ginny were married on Sept. 8, 1949, and recently celebrated their 47th anniversary. Joe received degrees from ACC in animal husbandry and chemistry in May of 1951.

Joe worked for BB Chemicals in Odessa and was co-founder and co-owner of REBBCO Chemicals. He was an avid square dancer and served his community as President of the Twilight Optimist Club in Odessa.

He was always a faithful servant of the Church of Christ and a current member of West University Church of Christ. The book of James has forever been his favorite. Joe touched numerous lives through preaching, teaching, leading hymns and by his life's example. He has sown many seeds for our Lord. This spiritual aspect of his life was the most dear to him and his family. We have truly been blessed.

All of our lives are richer because of you, and we rejoice in knowing that you are with our heavenly Father in Paradise.

Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at West University Church of Christ in Odessa and graveside services following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Shane Bassham, Landon Bassham, Blake Bassham, Paul Cauthen, Ken Rowland and Sammy Hooper.

Honorary pallbearers: Jackson Babb, Bruce Babb, Jan Brooks, Bob Radabaugh, John McIntosh, Bill Love and Bill Flynn.
