Tuesday evening he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred. G. Eichhorn, next door to the Boehmke home, for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke remained there for a short time and started for home at nine o'clock. Just as they were about to enter their home Mr. Boehmke fell on the floor and before a physician could arrive he had passed away. Prior to that moment he had been in apparently good health.

The Boehmkes Farmed Early Homestead Here. Early homesteaders of the vicinity were Mr. and Mrs. Emil Boehmke, deceased, who came here in 1882 from Benton county.
Mr. Boehmke was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1846. He came to the United States in 1864, settling in Benton county. Mrs. Boehmke was the former Anna Wieben, born 1847 in Schleswig, Germany. She came to the United States in 1869 and was married in 1878.
Homestead Farm. Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke first settled on a 160-acre homestead, seven miles south of Remsen, paying about $12 an acre for the land. They farmed there 14 years, during which time Mr. Boehmke was road supervisor and school director for a number of years. In 1902 they moved to Le mars to live for a short time and then moved to Remsen where they built the first home southeast of the water tank. The following year they sold this home and moved to Sioux Falls, residing there five years.
In 1915 they built the home now occupied by the Adolph Frasch family and resided there until Mr. Boehmke's death in July, 1929, when he passed away at the age of 83. His wife followed him in November, 1930, when she died at the age of 83. They had celebrated their golden wedding in 1921.
Ten Children: Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke were the parents of 10 children, seven of whom are living. Mr. Boehmke never complained of being in poor health, and his family never knew that he was ailing, except that during the past few weeks it was noticed that he was rather feeble. Tuesday evening he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred G. Eichhorn, next door to the Boehmke home, for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke remained there for a short time and started for home at nine o'clock. Just as they were about to enter their home Mr. Boehmke fell on the floor and before a physician could arrive he had passed away. Prior to that moment he had been in apparently good health.

He settled in Benton county, where he had friends, and worked at farming for a few years and later acquired a farm for himself. It was there that he was united in marriage to Anna Wiebben, also of that place, and after their marriage the couple continued to farm there for a few years. Later they came to Remsen and settled on a farm south of town, and for many years they lived there and prospered.
During his life on the farm Mr. Boehmke took an active interest in civic and political life, and for a time he served as county supervisor, representing Remsen township, and as a member of the school board. He was also a lifelong member of the Evangelical church and was one of St. Paul's congregation's most staunch supporters.
Mr. Boehmke was one of the outstanding citizens of this community, and was a man who commanded the respect and the highest esteem of his many acquaintances. He was possessed of many rare qualities of character, and one of the outstanding ones of these was his general friendliness and his willingness to give a helping hand to those who were in need. His many admirable traits brought him many friends, and his death is deeply regretted by his relatives as well as by those who had grown to know him through his many years of residence in this community.
Surviving are, besides his sorrowing widow, the following children: August Boehmke, Holland, Minn.; Gus. Boehmke, Pipestone, Minn.; Julius Boehmke, Inwood, Iowa; Mrs. Jacobsen and Peter Boehmke, of Sioux Falls, Mrs. S. O. Bammer, Estherville, Iowa, Mrs. Wm. E. Jurgensen, of Vermillion, S. D.; and Mrs. Fred G. Eichhorn. Two children preceded their father to the grave—one son and one daughter.

The Boehmkes Farmed Early Homestead Here. Early homesteaders of the vicinity were Mr. and Mrs. Emil Boehmke, deceased, who came here in 1882 from Benton county.
Mr. Boehmke was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1846. He came to the United States in 1864, settling in Benton county. Mrs. Boehmke was the former Anna Wieben, born 1847 in Schleswig, Germany. She came to the United States in 1869 and was married in 1878.
Homestead Farm. Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke first settled on a 160-acre homestead, seven miles south of Remsen, paying about $12 an acre for the land. They farmed there 14 years, during which time Mr. Boehmke was road supervisor and school director for a number of years. In 1902 they moved to Le mars to live for a short time and then moved to Remsen where they built the first home southeast of the water tank. The following year they sold this home and moved to Sioux Falls, residing there five years.
In 1915 they built the home now occupied by the Adolph Frasch family and resided there until Mr. Boehmke's death in July, 1929, when he passed away at the age of 83. His wife followed him in November, 1930, when she died at the age of 83. They had celebrated their golden wedding in 1921.
Ten Children: Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke were the parents of 10 children, seven of whom are living.
