Elisabeth was the daughter of Josef Berthold Grohmann and Karen Grynmyhreset Pedersdatter who married 8/23/1867 in Jevnaker, Oppland, Norway. Josef was a glass blower from Austria who moved to the Hadeland glass works in Jevnaker. Josef and Karen had 4 children: Elisabeth was the oldest, then Karl Oskar who went to Africa, Josephine Charlotte who stayed in Norway and Peter Alexander Grohmann who emigrated to the United States in 1891 and died in Duluth in 1955.
Elisabeth married Christian Hansen 11/6/1885 in Jevnaker. They, too, had 4 children: Hulda & Stefanie who emigrated to the US, Josef Holm & Kristian Emil who stayed in Norway. All of the children except Hulda were in St. Joseph Catholic School in Oslo in the 1900 census.
Elisabeth emigrated to the US as Grohmann, arriving 12/24/1902 on the Celtic. Her daughters Hulda came over 4/6/1906 on the Camania and Stefanie 6/24/1915 on the Frederik VIII. Stefanie married Carl Knutson and Hulda married Martin Knutson, but unrelated as far as I know.
Elizabeth's passage was paid for by a cousin, Edward Anderson, and she was supposed to go to his home in Swift Co., MN. He and his family moved to Clay Co., MN, near Moorhead, before the 1910 census, so this may be the way she got to the Fargo area.
Elizabeth operated a boarding house at 25 1st Ave. S. in Fargo and this is where Stefanie met Carl Knutson, according to Stefanie and Carl's son in the summer of 2013. Elizabeth is found in the 1920 Fargo census with Emil Johnson, who died in 1929. She is in the same house in the 1930 census, as "landlady".
