Arlene Joyce Mieth Penner of Duchess, Alberta Canada died Sunday, July 22 in Brooks, Alberta Canada. Services will be Thursday July 26th at 10:00 A.M. at Duchess Mennonite Church.
Arlene is survived by her husband Alvin Penner, of Duchess, Alberta, two sons, Andrew of Lethbridge, Alberta, Austin of Edmonton, Alberta, one daughter Alana of Duchess, Alberta.
She is also survived by her mother Carol Mieth of Cairo, Nebraska, one brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Judy Mieth of Norfolk, Nebraska, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Travie Henry of Taccoa, Georgia, Cynthia and Roger Van Boening of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lolita and Mike Schubert of Valentine, Nebraska, and Carolyn and Dean Johnson of Cairo, Nebraska, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father Stuart Mieth of Cairo, Nebraska and infant daughter Alyssa Mae.
Arlene attended rural District 59 in Hall County, Centura Public School, Nebraska Christian High School at Central City Nebraska graduating in 1975. She attended Hesston College in Kansas for a short time, then served with Mennonite Disaster Service for a time where she met Alvin. Arlene and Alvin were married October 27 1979, in Cairo. Alvin was by birth a Canadian and Arlene immigrated to Canada after they were married. They lived at first in Brooks, Alberta, then moved to the small town of Tilley. They later moved to Duchess, Alberta.
Arlene first fought cancer in 1980 and was considered cancer free.
Arlene found time to work, raise three beautiful children, be a pastor's wife, and become one of the first Creative Memories Consultants in Canada. Her beautiful photos and scrapbook inspired many. She always welcomed friends and family and entertained them with warmth and grace. She encouraged her children to express themselves through music, art, or anywhere their interests led them.
Another round of cancer in 1995, and again Arlene fought through the chemotherapy and again was able to return to her very full life. She worked as office manager at Excalibur Oil drilling company, continued to be an award winning consultant with Creative Memories, and watched her children grow into adulthood.
She leaves us after another short, intense battle with cancer. Her spirit never faltered and she leaves a legacy of a life well lived. Many who knew Arlene have a deep sadness for what we have lost, the smiles, the quick wit, the love, the kindness, and the joy in life. Through everything, Arlene taught us how to live with joy, and we cherish the memories we have.
