George was the son of Francis Marion and Bertha Octava (Edwards) Dowdy. He married Kathryn Allene McClure November 9, 1946 in Charlie, Texas. She preceded him in death August 12, 2004. George was a veteran of the United States Army and worked for TXU in Graham. He was member and a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Graham.

At time of death, survivors included: daughters, Brenda Mayo of Graham and Alita Baggett and husband, Bruce of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Jennifer Coley and husband, Brandon of Graham, Monica Scholder and husband, Brandon of Dallas, Brittany Bailey and husband, Craig of Wichita Falls; great grandchildren, Brant and Bennett Coley and Cameron and Cady Bailey; sister, Pauline Dowdy Lee of Denver, Colorado.

In addition to his wife,he was preceded in death by daughter, Anita Giles and grandson, Jordan Christopher Mayo.


Graveside services were held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements were under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
