Died on Wednesday last at his home six miles east of here, Charles Baldwin, Sen., Rev. E C. Browning preached the funeral on Thursday after which the remains were laid to rest on the home farm.
Stop O death! don't boast of victory,
Stop and hear what faith can say;
Of one Jesus who on Calvary
Died and in the grave did lay;
View Him rising, hear Him crying.
I, O death, have conquered you,
Death's no more than a black curtain;
Drawn to let the Saints go through.

OBITUARY.
Died, at his home in Bourbon Township, Knox Co., Mo., on the 14th day of May, 1879, Mr. Charles H. Baldwin, in the 74th year of his age.
Mr. B. was born in Washington, Mason co., Ky., Jan. 30 [sic], 1806; was married Feb. 6, 1840, to Miss Ruth Tully of the same state; and they came to Missouri the following March. They settled immediately on the farm where they have since resided; reared their family, achieved a competent fortune, and whence, after a few years of retirement from business activities, the husband and father was called to his reward. A residence of thirty-nine years in one locality, gave his neighbors an excellent opportunity to judge of the moral, social, and business worth of the man. Perhaps it is not too much to say, they approach unanimity in awarding to him the highest mead of praise. As a business man few excelled him in the days of his active life. In social life he was affable, hospitable, generous. In religion he was faithful, in all things charitable. Possessed of an extraordinary balance of mind, he was not subject to those irregularities either of speech or conduct, that detract from the usefulness of many excellent persons. Being very sparing of words, at the same time a careful thinker, and close observer, I never knew one who more impressively illustrated the proverb: "A word fitly spoken, is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." The deceased had been an honored member of the Masonic fraternity. He was baptized by F. Shoot of the Christian church, about the year 1848; was Elder of the church at Newark for several years, and sustained the same official position in the church at Walnut Grove, from its organization until death called him away. In all these relations, he sought to discharge his duties faithfully. In the church especially, he was a pillar and a bright example. Few men are so fully ready for their exit from this world. His children, four in number, were all married and settled comfortably around him, all devoted to the God and Savior, their father loved and trusted. The faithful companion of his toils, and joys and sorrows was provided for, in temporal concerns. His business was settled. He had reached an age when nature must fail. In his own words, "ample provision was made," by the God he served, for his future welfare. His sickness was protracted, and very distressing; and we cannot grieve that he is released from its pain. His death was calm, as had been his life. He died in his chair, watching his sinking pulse, speaking loving words, of parting advice to his family. On the 15th of May, the remains were taken to the church at Walnut Grove, and thence to the family burying ground, followed by a large procession of relatives and friends. May God bless the bereaved family.
