Jimmie D. Laurie, 82, Chanute, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.
He was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Fall City Lease, the son of Francis and Annie O'Hare Laurie.
He graduated from high school in Kansas, Okla.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked for the city of Chanute for 35 years in the water treatment plant and as a meter reader.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chanute, the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Cecil J. Meeker Post #1654 and the American Legion's Boerstler-May Post 170. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.
He enjoyed donating blood, reading, gardening, history and geography.
On Sept. 30, 1945, he married Mary Lou Schommer in Iola. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Alice Schroeder, Jacksonville, Fla., and Brenda Lindsay, Fairfield, Calif.; a sister, Peggy Philpott, Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Richard Laurie, Long Beach, Calif.; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the First Christian Church in Chanute, led by Pat Crowl. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post #1654.
