Catherine Josephine Van Loan, 91, of Brush St. Oakland, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Sunday, January 15, 2012. She is predeceased by her husband, John W. Van Loan; her parents, Lorenzo and Alesandra Mastropietro; her sister, Amelia Grausgruber; and a grandson John Charles Gorton.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol and Walt Gorton; a granddaughter Deborah, and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her love of music, dance and swimming she was additionally blessed with a loving heart and a generous nature. She took pleasure in spending time with her family and proud of her home.

Catherine was a life long member of the Sons of Italy.

A memorial service will be held at Hennessey's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, on Friday, January 20th, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Cramer officiating.

Burial will be held in the St. John's Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, January 20, 2012, from 10 to 11 a.m. Those wishing to remember the life a Catherine and/or in lieu of flowers, may donate in her name to: the or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Ramanujan, the staffs at Binghamton General and Wilson Memorial Hospitals in Binghamton NY and CMC in Scranton, PA. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care and loving concern for Catherine in her last days.
