Mark Sheafe, 66, Watertown, prominent lawyer and state Democratic party leader,
died here late yesterday after a long illness. The funeral will be Saturday at 4
p.m. in Trinity Episcopal church.
Sheafe was a member of the State Senate in 1915. He lost a 1932 bid for his
party's nomination to the US Senate and was defeated in 1938 primary race for
first district Congress.
He was a member of the state board in charge of administrating federal relief
under former Governor Tom Berry, in whose campaigns he was an active leader. He
has served as Codington Democratic chairman.
Born in Elk Point, he was the son of the late Gen. Mark W. Sheafe.
