He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Gerald Jr., and a son, Timothy; two sisters, Olive Carter and Louise Bunnell; and three brothers, Earl, Wendell and Lyle.
Born the son of James and Maude Winchell Ackley on Feb. 27, 1921, in Brooklyn, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Marguerite Etzel on Nov. 21, 1947. Gerald served in the Army during World War II. For more than 30 years, he owned and operated Ackley Plumbing and Heating in Marion. Gerald was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Marion, and American Legion Marion Post 298, where he served as commander; and served on the City of Marion Plumbing Board.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Marion Post 298.
