Bascom C. Fearing, 69, of Lawrence, Kansas, died at his home this morning. He had been recreation manager at the Kansas Union from 1952 to 1966, when he retired.
He received his bachelor's degree from Kansas University in 1922 and his master's degree from New York University, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1950. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Kiwanis Club and had been a resident of Lawrence since 1917. He died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church, Rev. M. C. Allen and Rev. Edwin F. Price are in charge of the service. Cremation will follow.
He is survived by his wife, Mary O. Fearing of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Norris of Kimberly, ID;, Mrs. Lloyd Griffith of Merriam, KS and Mrs. David Wright of Portland, OR; four brothers, Clarence Fearing of Burr Oak, KS; Olin Fearing of Mankato, KS; Albert H. Fearing of Lawrence, KS and Fred Fearing of Kansas City.
The casket will be closed. The family prefers donations to the organ fund at the First Baptist Church. Rumsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
