Mrs. Thelma I. Leupold, Waterville,
Kansas passed away Monday, April 20,
1987 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in
Blue Rapids, Kansas. She was seventy-
eight years old.
Thelma was born July 1, 1908 at
Scammon in Cherokee County, Kansas,
the daughter of Leonard T. and Lula
(Strahle) Marshall. She moved to
Marshall County, Kansas at an early age
and attended Home, Kansas schools. She
spent most of her life in Frankfort, Kansas
before she moved to Waterville in May of
1977.
Her first husband, Clifford S. Welch,
passed away in 1945 in an explosion at
Sunflower Ordnance Plant at DeSoto,
Kansas. She was married to Clarence
Leupold on May 4, 1946 at Seneca, Kansas.
He passed away August 14, 1972.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs.
Twyla Cerasari, Wilmington, Delaware,
Mrs. Betty Rudy, Lake Kiowa, Texas, Mrs.
Wanda Brumit, Ottawa, Kansas and Mrs.
Beverly Zech, Salina, Kansas; one son
Bill Welch, Madison, Kansas; two step-
daughters, Mrs. Caroline Wellensiek,
Blue Springs Nebraska and Mrs. Margaret
Phillippi, St. Joseph, Missouri; a step-son
Bob Leupold, Stockton, California; twenty-
three grandchildren; thirty-nine great-
grandchildren and three great-great-grand
children.
Funeral services were held Friday, April
24, 1987 at Padden Funeral Home in Frank-
fort, Kansas. Reverend John Burgreen
officiated.
Cheryl Shepherd accompanied Loren
Shearer as she sang "Amazing Grace"
and "In the Garden".
Pallbearers were Larry Rudy, Ernnie
Rudy, Garth Rudy, Virgil Gumm Jr.,
Freddie Gumm and Neville Gumm.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Burton
Jimmie Burton, Frank Welch and Charlie
Welch.

Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
