M. Gertrude Aaron
Mary Gertrude "Gertie" Fowlkes Aaron, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at her home at 906 Jefferson Circle, Martinsville.
She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Caswell County, N.C., to George William and Ruth Estelle Hodges Fowlkes, both deceased. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Aaron; sisters, Annie "Bet" Painter, Mable "Punk" Bryant and Merle "Mike" Andrews; and a brother, Frank Fowlkes.
She attended the First United Methodist Church and Starling Avenue Church of Christ.
Surviving are five daughters, Roberta A. Powell of King William, Mary A. Styne and Catherine A. Kennedy, both of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Margaret "Maggie" A. Cronise of Martinsville and Jeannie A. Walker of Boothwyn, Pa.; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one niece; and one nephew.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Services.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Jonathan Carroll officiating.
