John Francis Boose, 87, of Westminster died July 27 at Carroll Hospital Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1919, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Alfred Boose and Ethel Evans Boose.
He was the husband of the late Ethel Green Boose who died Sept. 3, 1980.
Before retiring he was a masonry contractor and builder. In the early 1950s he started John F. Boose Bricklaying and, in the 1960s, he and his son, Johnny, began building custom homes and built the subdivision of Colvilla near Carroll Hospital Center.
He was a member of the Westminster United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy and served in the 29th Division, Headquarters Battery 110th Field Artillery as aerial observation over enemy lines.
After serving in the Army he returned home to enroll in the Baltimore Bricklaying School, where he later became a teacher. He was a member of American Legion Carroll Post 31, VFW Post 467, 29th Division Association, Jerome L. Day Post 48, Westminster Moose Lodge 1381 and Littlestown Eagles Aeri 2226.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his West Virginia getaway home, and was an excellent pool shooter in his time.
He is survived by sons Steve F. Boose and John D. (Johnny) Boose, both of Westminster.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger A. Boose.
