Elizabeth Davis MacKinnon (Mrs. George E.) ("Betty"), born on August 5, 1915, in Palmer, Mass., of pulmonary insterstitial fibrosis on October 10, 1999 in Minneapolis. Graduated Smith College, B.A. 1935; attended graduate school in Political Science at the University of Minnesota; served as Assistant to the Dean at Skidmore College, 1937-38. In 1938, she married George E. MacKinnon, later Congressman representing the 3rd District of Minnesota (1946-48) and Circuit Judge on U.S. Court of Appeals, Washington, D.C. (1969 to 1995). 


Betty MacKinnon was active in Republican politics, including in George's campaign for governor of Minnesota in 1958; in church affairs at St. David's Episcopal Church (Minnetonka Mills), where she was the first woman senior warden, and at St. James Episcopal Church (Potomac, Maryland); and educational activities, including the PTA and Orono School bond issues. The MacKinnons lived in Long Lake, Minnesota from 1948 to 1969, then in Potomac, Maryland until George's death in 1995. Betty returned to the Minneapolis area to live in 1997. 


She is survived by her three children, Catharine Alice MacKinnon (b. 1946), of Ann Arbor, Michigan; James Davis MacKinnon (b. 1948) and his wife Pam MacKinnon, and Leonard Davis MacKinnon (b. 1951); her brother, Robert S.

Davis Sr. of Lexington, Kentucky; Joan Brick Davis ot S. Hadley, Mass. (widow of Betty's brother Irving Gilman Davis); and four grandchildren, Brett, Shannon, Judd, and Ian MacKinnon. 


A Memorial Service will be held at St.

David's Episcopal Church, Minnetonka Mills (13000 St. David's Road, Minnetonka), Minnesota (612) 935-3336 on Saturday, October 16 at 2:30 P.M. A gathering for friends and family will follow at the home of Jim and Pam MacKinnon, 2430 Meeting St., Wayzata (Minnetonka), Minnesota (612) 476-9062.
