John Louis Sevenski Sr., 57, of Elmira, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at home with his sons by his side.

John was born Aug. 15, 1955, in Gaylord, to Jack and LulaBell Sevenski. He graduated from Boyne Falls High School in 1975.

He worked at Dura in East Jordan for 27 years and many years at the Northern Michigan Speedway.

John loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, playing poker, mushroom hunting, with deer hunting being his favorite. He also loved to garden and had one of the best gardens around. Everyone enjoyed his homemade canned goods that he generously passed around. He was also a great cook; his specialty was anything on the grill. John taught his sons a lot about life and how to survive off the land.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, LulaBell Sevenski.

John was the greatest father, son, brother, uncle and friend anyone could ask for. His family meant everything to him.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at St. Thomas Church in Elmira, with the Rev. James Bearss officiating.

Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at St. Thomas Church in Elmira.

Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.

His sons would like to thank the people who stood by them in their time of need, including those who came to visit, generously brought food and spent time with them and their dad during the last days of his life. They would especially like to thank Marie Johnson for the loving care she gave their father and for sharing in the great meals John prepared for her and his boys. A special thank you to Kathy, Tammy and Bob from Hospice/Home Health Care for the compassionate care they gave their father during his time of need.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John's sons, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, Mich. 49734
