He worked in New York City as a driver of a horse and carriage for a businessman.
He met Victoria Elizabeth Silbernagel in New York City where they were married in 1897. They left NYC and traveled to Upstate New York where they operated a Dairy farm and a Cheese Making operation in Jefferson county.
