William was born in Boxburg, Baden, Germany on July 4, 1868. He had siblings, all born in Boxburg, namely:

1. Johann (John) Jacob Schweitzer born on February 24, 1864.

2. Jacob Schweitzer born March 4, 1866.

3.Maria Schweitzer born July 21, 1872.




However, official records in Germany show William was christened on August 9, 1868 as Wilhelm Schweizer. His parents are listed as Martin Schweizer and Maria Eva Hettinger of Boxberg, Baden, Germany. Also his naturalization application at Watertown, New York on February 8, 1939 states his birth date as August 4, 1868 and that he arrived in New York City on September 24, 1890. He left Germany at the age of 22 and went to Antwerp, Belgium where he departed on the ship Westernland of the Red Star Line for New York City arriving there on September 24, 1890. He worked in New York City as a driver of a horse and carriage for a businessman.
He met Victoria Elizabeth Silbernagel in New York City where they were married in 1897. They left NYC and traveled to Upstate New York where they operated a Dairy farm and a Cheese Making operation in Jefferson county.
Their children were as follows:
Mary Schweitzer, 1898-1975
Frederick William Schweitzer, 1900-1995
Rose Victoria Schweitzer, 1903-1994
Hilda Amelia Schweitzer, 1908-1991
