When living in Clarksville in the early 1900s the women were probably awaiting the sale at C.B. Gilbert dry goods store every year, maybe like Prime Days on Amazon in 2023. Charlie Bell Gilbert ran an ad in the local newspaper on January 19, 1911, showcasing discounted corset covers, muslin skirts and gowns, knit winter underwear, blankets and floor rugs.
"Buy now and save from 10 to 25 per cent."

From Calumet Census records from 1880 until 1910 it appears that Gilbert was a salesman in clothing stores throughout his working career. He married Clara Boone in 1885, and they had three children, Joseph , Charlie Bell Jr. and daughter Alma Irene.
Their oldest son Joseph served as a private in the US Army during World War I but left Clarksville and moved to St. Louis after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Mae Ben Todd. Joseph worked as a Floor Walker at a 5 and 10 cent store. The family later settled in CA.

The 1940 census showed son, Charlie Bell, worked as a Janitor of the Christian Church in Clarksville, never married, and eventually moved to CA after his mother died in 1948.
Alma Irene Gilbert never married and died at age 28.
