MANCHESTER - Marshall Thompson Ayers went home to his Lord and Savior on Nov. 25, 2012, at his home after a hard-fought battle with diabetes and kidney disease. Marshall was born in Augusta on April 15, 1956. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1974 before joining the Army where he became a sergeant and a tank commander.

He married Kathleen Grant in 1980. In 1982, he graduated from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute (now Central Maine Community College) with a degree in electrical mechanical technology, a field in which he spent his entire career. Marshall's life was all about his family. He was a warm and loving father. He was involved in everything his kids did, coaching baseball, leading cub scouts, and letting the kids jam in the back room.

Before he became ill, he loved road trips to Myrtle Beach, Fla., and New Orleans. Marshall kept everyone smiling with his sense of humor and was usually the biggest kid in the room.

Marshall was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Jean (Thompson) Ayers.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Manchester; his two sons, Don P. Ayers and Andy M. Ayers, both of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Thea LeBlanc of Westbrook and Carrie Ayers of Augusta; one brother, Nathan Ayers and his wife, Tina, of Augusta; one uncle, Richard Ayers, of Sidney; nieces and nephews Maija Comeau and her husband, Keith, of Leeds, Micah Hilton and Tanya Arens of Westbrook, Crispin Leblanc and his wife, Mikari, of Clearfield, Utah, Laura Lamport and her husband, Justin, of Waterville, Jacob Whitman of Waterville, Sam and Hannah Whitman of Readfield and Bryce and Ella Trefethen of Mount Vernon; and a very special sister-in-law, Amy Grant-Trefethen and her husband, Brett, of Mount Vernon.

A graveside service will be held at the North Manchester Cemetery on Scribner Hill Road, Manchester. (Kennebec Journal 11/28/2012)
