In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Rumbley Persinger in 2005, and five sisters: Emma Leslie, Mary Nell Jones, Jean Stinson, Patricia Hendrix, and Gail Hendrix.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Stephen Persinger, Jacksonville, FL, Randall Persinger and his wife Linda, Knoxville, TN; brothers: Harry Hendrix, and Fred Hendrix; grandchildren: Stephen Persinger II, Scott Persinger, Lauren Persinger, and Lexie Persinger; numerous great-grandchildren, special nieces: Patricia Cross and Ellen King; several other nieces and nephews also survive, also her lifelong neighbor, Evelyn Gates.
Clara served in the US Navy during WWII as a Hospital Corpsman. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from ETSU, and was a first grade school teacher in the Sullivan County School System for over 30 years. Clara was a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church.
The family will greet friends to share memories on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 1:00 PM until a Celebration of Clara’s Life at 2:00 PM in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Roland Whittemore officiating. A Graveside and Committal Service will follow at Shell Cemetery Piney Flats. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers Clara’s family ask that donations be sent to East TN Christian Home, P.O. Box 1147 Elizabethton, TN 37644.
