Corporal James Walter Scott was Killed in Action during WWII. He died in one of the largest American offenses during the war called the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. He paid the ultimate sacrifice during the second phase, code named Operation Queen, in Germany.

5th Armored Division (United States)
In October it held defensive positions in the Monschau-Hofen sector. The division entered the Hurtgen Forest area in late November and pushed the enemy back to the banks of the Roer River in very heavy fighting. On 22 December it was withdrawn to Verviers and placed in 12th Army Group reserve.

46th Infantry Regiment (United States)
During World War II, the 46th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 5th Armored Division. Landing at Normandy in 1944, the 46th Infantry led the 5th Armored Division in five campaigns earning the nickname "Victory’s Spear point".

Official word has been received by Mrs. Helen Gardner Scott of Linwood Avenue, Warsaw, that her husband, Corporal James Scott was killed in action on December 2nd, in Germany. Corporal Scott had been overseas since February, 1944. He leaves his widow Helen Scott and a daughter, Sandra Jean; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott of Castile and four brothers, Lynn of Warsaw, Floyd and Zane living at home and Sergeant Gordon Scott now serving overseas.

Widow Will Be Awarded Purple Heart by Army
Mrs. Helen M. Scott of 115 Linwood Avenue, Warsaw has been informed by the United States Government that she is to be awarded the Purple Heart which was earned by her late husband, Corporal James Scott who was recently killed in Germany. He has been in the Army almost three years and overseas nearly a year when his death occurred. Besides his widow, he leaves a little daughter, Sandra Joan and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott of Castile.
