Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday from the Beaver United Brethren Church for Pvt. James W. Kuntzman, son of Mayor, Henry and Mrs. Edith (Bobst) Kuntzman of Beaver, who was drowned July 21, near Ft. Lewis, Wash., while on Army maneuvers from that post. Officiating at the funeral will be the Rev. H. C. Elliott and burial will be in the Beaver Union cemetery, under the direction of the Davis-Hammerstein funeral home. The body will arrive in Beaver Wednesday evening.
Pvt. Kuntzman and four other soldiers were on a raft in American Lake, near Ft. Lewis, in process of moving equipment. While returning to the post, the cargo on the heavily-loaded raft suddenly shifted, throwing all five soldiers into the lake. In addition to Pvt. Kuntzman, two of the other four soldiers also lost their lives in the accident. Pvt. Kuntzman is survived by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Springs and the Misses Pauline and Nellie Kuntzman, and a brother. Russell of Beaver.
