His place of residence during the Revolution was Sussex County, NJ.

Appointed ensign from Upper Hardwick July 26, 1775. Captain, Col. Aaron Hankinson's Second Regiment, Sussex County Militia.

Commanded his company of 29 men serving in battalion command by Col. John Seward under Brig. Gen. William Winds at New Windsor, NY, 24th October to 25 November, 1777.

Commanded his regiment of 56 men serving under Col. Aaron Hankinson at Shrapnack, 6th to 13th July, 1778.

Commanded his company of 22 men serving under Col. Hankinson at Shrapnack, 15th to 18th October, 1778.

Illustrated History of Nebraska pg 493 (William Vincent Allen lives at Madison, Nebraska. He was born in Midway, Madison County, Ohio Jan 28 1847 and is a son of the Rev. Samuel and Phoebe (Pugh) Allen. The Allen family settled in America near Trenton, N.J. where Ananias Allen, Mr. Allen's great-grandfather was born Jan 4 1742. Ananias Allen married 1772 Rachel Harker, who was born in New Jersey Feb 15, 1754 and died in Ohio March 3 1827, and in 1800 they moved to Mercer County, PA and about 1809 or 1810 to Fayette County Ohio. He served as Captain in the 2nd Sussex (N.J.) regiment during the Revolutionary War and some of his sons served from Ohio in the War of 1812. Captain Allen died at Bloomingsburgh, Oh Oct 2 1825 and his remains and those of his wife rest in the cemetery at that place. One of his sons, Daniel Allen a farmer married Hannay Litton (or Lytton) in Dec 1800 and settled in Madison County...

Elizabeth Allen, daughter of Ananias Allen married Matthew Jones born May 15 1792 near Harper's Ferry VA d. Apr 1864. Wife Elizabeth Allen b. NJ 1796 d. 1827. He married 2nd Catherine Glaze Cory, daughter of George Glaze. He had 7 children by each wife. Matthew Jones served as a Private in Capt Robert Kerr's Co Adams & Highland Counties Ohio. Was appointment Major of Militia.
