Horace Gill Hilton is a son of Wilford "B" hilton and Vera Snow Hilton. His birth was at 7:00 a.m. on June 28, 1932. He is the sicth of seven children. He attended schools in Delta, graduating from the Delta High School. Attended Brigham Young University before filling a full-time mission in the Western States, headquarted in Denver, Colorado. It was there that he met his future wife, Colleen Kirgan. They were married March 6, 1956. They have 9 children, Hugh Gill, Duane Kirgan, Kathryn, Laurie, Sterling, Mariann, Nancy, Stephen, and Dallin.

He completed his classes at Brigham Young University , graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy in 1958. He then attended graduate school at North Carolina State in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was awared a doctorate in Soils with a minor in statistics in 1961. After graduaton he was hired as a professor by Brigham Young University where he taught for many years i the Statistics dedpartment. He was chairman of the Statistics Department for a period of time during his teaching.

He served as an L.D.S. Bishop twice and as stake president in the Orem, Utah area.
