Farmed on the Smithsburg- Leitersburg Road, West of Smithsburg, Washington county, MD. and worked at the Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro where he operated a lathe for forty years.

OBITUARY :
GEORGE DANIEL HARTMAN died Sunday at 8 p.m. at his home at Smithsburg Route 2 after a lingering illness, aged 70 years.

Born in Rouzerville, he was the son of Josiah and Sarah (Hoover) Hartman. He had lived at his present home in Smithburg for the past 12 years. He was a machinist and had been employed at the Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro for 40 years, In 1947 he retired and became associated with his son, Kenneth, in farming. He was a member of the Harbaugh Evangelical Reformed Church for 54 years. His wife, Mrs. Hattie Scott Hartman, died two years ago on January 20.

The following children are survivors: Mrs. Lester Mongan, Hagerstown Route 5; Clarence, Hagerstown; Ray and Mrs. Edward Berger, Hagerstown Route 6; Mrs. Melvin Cutchill, Welsh Run; Mrs. Russell Ripple, at home; Kenneth, Smithsburg; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Mrs. Laura Snively, Smithsburg Route 2; Mrs. Mary E. Stoner, Hagerstown; brother, Albert Hartman, Waynesboro Route 4.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Howell Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro Route 3, with the Rev. H. K. Haines and the Rev. Eber Dourte officiating. Interment in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends may call at the Grove Funeral Home in Wynesboro on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The body may also be viewed at the church at 1 p.m. on Thursday preceding the funeral service. Please omit flowers.
