Another Old Citizen Gone--We regret to have to announce that John Shelby, well known to the commercial portion of this city, breathed his last yesterday. his funeral will take place at 10 o'clock this day from his late residence on main street, between Winchester and Commerce streets. His friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend. Carriages in attendance.
According to the Shelby County Register of deaths he was 55 years of age at the time of his death, the headstone says he was 50 at the time of his death.. Cause of death: gastroenteritis. He was a merchant.
The marker says he died on Dec 12 but the death index says it was Dec 13th and the Elmwood records have him being interred on Dec 14th 1861.
