Sadie was born into a wealthy St. Louis family. She loved art and began studying it at an early age in Paris. Her work was exhibited in the Paris Salon from 1891 until
her death. One notable painting, the La Vierge au Rosier, represents the Madonna and Child seated on a throne beneath an arch. Her grave features a bronze sculpture of a recumbent woman with the inscription "Ars Longa, Vita Brevis" which means Art is Long, Life Short.
