VIRGINIA DARE ATNIP went to be with Jesus her LORD and Savior, on Wednesday November 19, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Logan Atnip, who loved and supported her to the end; her four children, David Atnip of Shanghai, China; Stephen Atnip and his wife Nancy of Houston; Cliff Atnip and his wife Char of Corpus Christi; and Brigitte Ritchey and her husband Jeff of Calgary, Canada; and grandchildren Jason Atnip, Kristin, Kimberly, and Kenneth Ritchey, Delilah Lewis, Paige Baker; and one great-granddaughter, Hope Lewis. Virginia was born in Elberton, Georgia, on June 16, 1928, the third daughter of William and Josephine Hill, both deceased. She will be missed greatly by her three sisters, Margaret Cornelius of Vero Beach, Florida, Mary Grant of Elberton, Georgia and Patricia Lunsford of Franklin, North Carolina. After graduating from Elberton High School, Virginia attended Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia where she graduated in 1949, suma cum laude. Following a year as a high school teacher, Virginia spent the summer working on the staff at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in North Carolina. There, she met a fellow staffer, a dashing young man named Logan. They were married July 16, 1950. After attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, they were appointed in 1956 as missionaries to Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), where they served for 25 years. Settling in Houston, Logan joined the staff of Tallowood Baptist Church where he served for 20 years. Virginia's passion was to serve her LORD and Savior, and rely on him completely. This was reflected in her life of service and steadfast faith in his promises. She believed in prayer, and read her Bible daily. It always encouraged her family to know that they were in her prayers. She will be missed, not only by her family, but those who knew and loved her all over the world. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood, Houston, TX with Pastor Duane Brooks officiating.
