CLAYTON, Ill. -- Mrs. Eva A. Smith, 87, a homemaker formerly of Clayton, died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 9, 1996) in Blessing Hospital's Long Term Care Unit in Quincy.
Born Jan. 11, 1908, in Jud, N.D., she was a daughter of Frederick C. and Anna Ellsworth Abel. She married Chester H. Smith Aug. 25, 1926, in Peoria. He died Jan. 1, 1992.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Metamora schools and a longtime member of Clayton Christian Church where she played organ and piano for many years. She also was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship and Busy Bee Club.
Survivors include a son, Gail Smith of Clayton; a daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Rosemary) Wear of Terre Haute, Ind.; four grandchildren, Boyce Wear of Effingham, Mrs. John (Debra) Shoemaker of Jonesboro, Ga., Terry Smith of Clayton, and Mrs. Sam (Lesa) Markert of Camp Point; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton by the Rev. Robert Yates. Burial will be in South Side Cemetery at Clayton.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today and until Friday morning.
Memorials may be made to Clayton Christian Church.
