According to "North Carolina Troops, 1861-1865 Volume 4, Infantry, " Born in Cabarrus County where he resided as a farmer, prior to enlisting in Cabarrus County at age 21, 15 August 1861, for the war. Captured at Roanoke Island, on February 8, 1862, and paroled at Elizabeth City on February 21, 1862. Exchanged in August , 1862. Present and accounted for until he died at Charleston, SC; April 1, 1863 of typhoid fever."

He was captured at Roanoke Island, NC on 8 Feb 1862, paroled on 21 Feb 1862 and exchanged in Aug 1862. He died of Typhoid Fever in Charleston, SC on 1 Apr 1863."
