SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Mildred Irene Bates, 93, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at a South Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Glad Tidings Church, with the Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Mildred was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Sioux City, the daughter of Milbrey P. and Eva A. (Myers) Burgett. She married the Rev. Ernest R. Bates on Aug. 16, 1930, in Sioux City. He died Aug. 9, 1993, in South Sioux City. She had been a resident of South Sioux City since 1985.

She was a member of Church of God of the First Born in Newton, Kan., and Glad Tidings Church in South Sioux City.

She is survived by three sons, Lyle Bates and his wife, Ethel, and Jerold Bates and his wife, Patricia, all of Seminole, Okla., and Dennis Bates of Monterey, Tenn.; two daughters, Carol and her husband, Wayne Des Champs of Monterey, Tenn., and Norma Carpenter of South Sioux City; a brother, Lynn Burgett of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Hazel Paltz and Gladys Funke, both of South Sioux City, and Fay Chaplin of Sun City, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren
