Leslie E. Bailey was born April 2, 1912, in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, the son of James Walter and Annetta S. "Nettie" (Cathcart) Bailey.

Leslie married Fern Eloise Strom on October 8, 1939, at the home of her brother in Roy Strom in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska. The alter was improvised before the fireplace, which was banked with baskets of pink and white gladioli and greenery. Fern was born December 10, 1913, in Stromsburg, Polk County, Nebraska, the daughter of Emil W. and Hulda Alden Juvelia (Ekstrand) Strom. Leslie and Fern had the following known children:

2. Jane Bailey
