Wife Follows Crash Victim in Death
SAN JOSE, Aug. 12 — (IP) — Two traffic accident deaths were reported here today, Mrs. Katherine Hammond, whose husband, Harry M. Hammond, died last night of injuries in incurred in the crash, died today Ralph R. Grady, 33-year-old Watsonville lettuce worker, was killed last night when his auto collided near San Juan with a truck and trailer driven by Frank McBain, 41 of San Jose. Hammond was a former Alameda postmaster.

Henry M. Hammond was nominated as postmaster of Alameda today by President Harding, who sent the nomination to the United States Senate, according to Washington dispatches. This marks a step in the long and successful career for Hammond in the Alameda department. Hammond has been in the post office for twenty-one years, rising from a letter carrier to his present office, which he is to assume the first of the year.
Hammond replaces Tom Stoddard, whose term expires on January 1 and who is not eligible for the examination. IT will be the second time that Hammond has been postmaster. In 1916 he held the office for four months following the death of Postmaster Lydecker, who preceded Stoddard. Hammond is a well known lodge member, being connected with the Rotary Club, the Alameda Els, the Masons and other organizations.
