Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Corporal in Company B, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 27, 1861. Promoted to Sergeant on Dec. 25, 1862, he served with the 2nd New Jersey until March 2, 1863, when he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, and transfered to Company H, 23d New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He served with his new regiment through the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign, and was honorably mustered out on June 27, 1863.
