He enlisted June 24, 1861 as a private in Co. G, 5th Iowa Inf. Wounded severely in the side at Battle of Champion Hill, Ms. May 16, 1863. Captured at Battle of Mission Ridge, Tn. Nov.25, 1863, and confined at Andersonville, Ga. for 366 days.


Feb. 13, 1866, married Rosa Inman

7 children: 1 son died in infancy, Charles died in 1926, others are Edward, Eugene, Alva, and Warren, and daughter, Mrs. Clark Jeffers


living siblings were Rebecca Moon, Harry, and (David) Leander.
