Another Civil war veteran was called to his reward when Simon G. Beebe died at his home on Vernon avenue at the age of 67 years. Diabetes was the cause of his demise. Mr. Beebe had been ailing for three years or more, but had been confined to his bed for only a few days.
Mr. Beebe served through two years of the great war, enlisting at Madison and serving in the Wisconsin volunteer infantry. He was mustered out of the service at Fort Snelling.
There survives the aged man three daughters, Mrs. O.J. Johnson, Mrs. Ada Dennis and Miss Irene Beebe, all residents of Beloit. Mrs. Beebe preceeded her husband to the grave twelve years ago.
At 8:30 o'clock tomorrow morning, Rev. W.W.F. Brown, chaplain of L.H.D. Crane post, G.A.R. of which Mr. Beebe was an honored member, will offer prayer at the home and at 9:40 the remains will be sent to Wiota, Wis., over the St. Paul road. Services will be held in the Christian church at Wiota in the afternoon and interment will be made there.
Many citizens will mourn the death of Mr. Beebe. Of fine character, beloved by all who knew him, his demise seems doubly sad. He will be especially missed in the ranks of the Grand Army, where he was always a conspicous figure- Beloit Free Press
Mr. Beebe was 69 years of age and was a resident of Lafayette county since his infancy. He kept a general store at Wiota for many years and also served as postmaster. He was also surveyor for Lafayette county at different times.
