BANGOR and ORONO Betty B. Hoctor, 85, died on Feb. 23, 2003, at her home. Her husband of 60 years, Capt. John M. Hoctor, was by her side when she quietly passed away. She was born on Sept. 23, 1917, in Marlborough, N.H., the daughter of Paul and Flossie (McNerney) Brill. Betty loved her cats, Angel and Molly, gardening, reading, cooking, board games, and creating beautiful crewel work, and enjoyed sharing those passions with her family. She loved relating stories of her children's and grandchildren's lives, and the pleasure they brought her. She will be remembered for her dry wit and great sense of humor by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by three children, their spouses and seven grandchildren; a daughter, Betsy Valentine, her children, Kenny and Kyle, all of New Britain, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Nancy E. Hoctor and their children, John, Sam and Michelle, all of Sanford; a daughter and son-in-law, Nell and Dennis Dalheim of Wayne and their children Sharon D. Robins of Hardyville, Va., and Carson of Wayne. Betty was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Trafton of Naples and William Brill of Old Orchard Beach. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to an animal shelter or charity of their choice. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Frank J. Murray, pastor, presider. Spring interment will take place in Stonington.
