Pink Whitted slain by Haynes Whaley as the result of a game of poker. Tragedy occurred last Friday on Route 14 near Greenbriar Cove. Whitted was carrying baby in his arms but it escaped unhurt. Last Friday afternoon, Pink Whitted, aged about 30, route 14, was shot to death by Haynes Whaley, as the result of a card game, according to information reaching Sevierville the following day. It seems from reports, that Mr. Whaley went to the home of Mr. Whitted on Laurel and challenged him for a poker game. It is said Whitted won Whaley's money and watch and that Whaley went to the home of his brother and borrowed more money and his pistol. Going back to the home of Whitted, Whaley is said to have asked him to play more poker, but Whitted declined. Whaley then demanded his watch back, it is said that Whitted handed it back to him. Whaley, then demanded his money back and it is said, Whitted reached into his pocket to get it when Whaley opened fire on him with his pistol, shooting him five times, once in the head, twice in the breast and twice in the arm. Whitted had one of his small children in his arms and the baby slipped to the ground unhurt as the father toppled over with 5 bullets in his body. He lived only a short time.

Pink Whitted died May 27, 1927 in Sevier, County, Tennessee. He is buried at the Whitted Cemetery, Sevier, Tennessee.
