She was born in Lincoln County, April 30, 1925, daughter of the late Loy and Flossie Summey.
FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church
INTERMENT: Gaston Memorial Park
VISITATION: 6:30–8:30 p.m. Friday, Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly
She was a native of Gaston County before coming to Mecklenburg County in 1946.
Nola was a member of Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1947. She worked with the Children's Church Choir, Women's Church Circle, and was a member of the Adult Bible Class and the Adult Choir. She retired from AT&T (now Lucent Technologies) February 4, 1987.
SURVIVORS: 3 sons and their wives, Ron and Noriko Abernathy of Greensboro, Jerome and Linda Abernathy of Mount Holly, Dennis Abernathy, Sr. and Debbie of Stanley; grandchildren, Joel Abernathy, Shawn and wife Amber Abernathy, James (Jay) Abernathy and wife Diane, Dennis Jr. Abernathy, David and wife Tawnya Abernathy, Daryl Abernathy, Stacy and husband Paul Pruitt, and Andrea Hillard; great-grandchildren, Johnny, Tyler, Tiercyn, Ceranyse, Kyrsten, Christian, Jayson, Landon and Makayla; 2 brothers, George Summey and wife Bertha of Mount Holly, Eugene Summey and wife Irene of Charlotte, and a sister-in-law Pearl Summey of Stanley
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her parents and a brother Jasper Summey of Mount Holly passed away and have gone to their heavenly home. Nola has gone to join them and her husband Roy who died March 20, 1996, having been marrried 54 years.
