Charles Earnest Blackwell, 83, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007.

Born in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Earnest and Exie Smith Blackwell.

Mr. Blackwell was co-founder and co-owner of Piedmont Mechanical in Spartanburg, S.C., and after 20 years of service, retired at the age of 74.

He was a member of the Hejaz Temple of the Shrine, member of the Shrine Marching Patrol, the Shrine Golf Club and a member of the Lions Club.

He and his wife were founding members of Augusta Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a past Chairman of the Deacons, and on various committees. He also was a long-time member of the Men's Bible Class.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Genevie Hale Blackwell; a son, Tim Blackwell and wife Madeline; a daughter, Beth Leslie and husband William "Bo" Ansel Leslie, III; a brother, Tom Blackwell and wife JoAnne and a sister, Peggy Tannery. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kimberly Sheridan and husband Mike, Timothy Blackwell and wife Kimberlee, William Ansel Leslie, IV and wife Jessica and Charles Hale Leslie and wife Cazzie Carter; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Sheridan, Bethany Leslie, Ryan Sheridan, Keely Sheridan and William Ansel Leslie, V.

Preceding him in death were three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Augusta Heights Baptist Church, with Rev. Howard Wimmer and Rev. Dan Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the church in the parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augusta Heights Baptist Church, 3018 Augusta Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

The family will be at the home.
