Although census records show her name as Hester Ann, her tombstone and her death certificate give her name as Esther Ann Smith. Her tombstone shows her date of birth as June 16, 1855 while her death certificate shows June 6, 1855. She was the daughter of Newman Haynes Clanton and Mariah Sexton Kelso; wife of August M. "Gus" Smith.
