"David S. Walker Jr., is no more. Deathcrept silently in about noon Friday and suddenly cut off hisbrilliant young life. Apparently he was in perfect health,but congestion was at work, and life ended before any of hisfriends realized that he was ill. Judge and Mrs. Walker were in Pensacola, where JudgeWalker was presiding at court, and the blow to him wassevere. David S. Walker Jr., was born in this city in October1846. At the age of fourteen he enlisted in the Confederateservice, but was soon discharged owing to his youth. He thenattended Howard's College, Marion, Ala., for one session,after which he joined Captain King's independent cavalrycompany, of Alabama, but finally returned to Florida andentered Captain Houstoun's artillery company, serving to theend of the war. After the close of the war he was employed in theinternal revenue department under M.A. Williams, collector.In 1874, he began the practice of law in Tallahassee, andsoon became prominent in the profession. Mr. Walker was three times elected mayor ofTallahassee. He represented Leon County in the Legislatureof 1883, was a member of the Constitutional Convention in1885, and a member of the State Senate in 1887. The funeral took place from the residence of ex-Governor D.S. Walker, at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Rev.W.H. Carter, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church,officiating. Pall bearers were Governor Flemming, L.B.Wombwell, Henry Bernreuter, E.H. Myers, Mayor R.B. Gorman,D.B. Meginniss Jr., J.M. Cook, Senator Patrick Houstoun,B.M. Burroughs and T.H. Randolph. Col. And Mrs. A.W. Cockrell of Jacksonville, and Mr.Wm. Fisher, of Pensacola, were among the relatives whoarrived in time to attend the funeral.
