She was born March 2, 1913 in Barnes City to Fred George and Zella (Darland) Darland. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1931. On Dec. 5, 1931 she married Merle F. Lockard in Oskaloosa and he preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1991. She helped her husband farm north of Oskaloosa for many years before retiring and moving to an acreage south of Oskaloosa.
She is survived by a son, Leo Lcokard of University Park; two daughters, Karen Mitchell of Eddyville and Patsy Marlin of Ockaloosa; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and four brothers, Emil Darland of Seattle, Wash., Calvin Darland of Des Moines, Don and Carl Darland, both of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son at infancy, Merle Jr. and a brother, Adrian Lockard..
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Bates Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Michael Crouch officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of the First Christian Church.
