Esther Wright, 96, of McAlester, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2012, at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas. She was born Oct. 5, 1916, near Okemah, the daughter of Charles M. and Edna Armstrong Earnest. She graduated from Okemah High School and later attended Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City. She married Robert B. Wright on Aug. 22, 1937, in Okemah. They made their home in Okmulgee before moving to McAlester in 1949. She was a legal secretary and accountant for several businesses including, M.W. Priddy Account, Altman Building Materials and Meeco Marinas. She retired in 1981 after 16 years of service for Meeco. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church serving as teacher and director of primary children's Sunday school department. Later, she was a member of the First Baptist Church Chapel Sunday school class. She also worked for 26 years with the homebound and woman's ministries. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years and was a member of the Daffodil Club. Survivors include her son, Charles Gary Wright, of Dallas, and a niece, Elizabeth Ann Been, of Mason Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R.B. Wright, and her brother, Dale Earnest. Services are set for 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at First Baptist Church in McAlester, with the Rev. Rodney Briggs officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of McAlester. Active pallbearers are Paul Volturo, Chuck Wood, Lonnie Been and Dylan Been. Honorary pallbearers are John Proctor and Larry Allford.
