Marguerite is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Thomas Garvey (They were married on August 16, 1974); daughter, Mary Losh; sister, Geraldine Newland; and brother William Newland. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Newland; mother, Grace (Sullivan) Newland and brother, Daniel Newland.
Marguerite was born in Woodward, IA before moving to Boone and being raised and graduating high school from Sacred Heart. She then went on to St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Carroll, IA and graduated in 1956 with a nursing degree. She later returned to St.Paul - Ramsey Hospital and Medical Center in St. Paul, MN and graduated in 1971 with a diploma to become a nurse anesthetist.
She was very respected and well liked in her career and blazed a trail for many women today. She loved her little dog "Dingle" and her cat "Nippy". You could find her every morning with her crossword puzzle and a cup of freshly brewed tea. Her main hobby was genealogy, a labor of love, as family was very important to her. She also loved reading, especially mysteries, and loved music, especially polka and"fiddle" music. She spent the last 5 plus years of her life in Riverside, CA living with her husband, daughter and son-in-law.
Memorial services will be held in Boone, IA at Sacred Heart Church with a burial of ashes in Sacred Heart Cemetery by Schroeder Funeral Home at a later date and will be announced in the News Republican paper. Anyone wishing to contact the family may do so at [email protected].
