Meryl June Hoggatt, 76, of Rosedale, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 11:16 a.m., at Union Hospital, with her children singing hymns softly at her side. She was born in 1936, in Lyford, to Charles and Ruth (Adams) Wilding, and was their only child.

She will be missed greatly by her children, Kevin (Debbie) Hoggatt of Rosedale, and Joyce (Dale) Arand of Hudson, Ohio. In addition she leaves behind her grandchildren, Jamie and Abby Hoggatt, and Steven, Brian, Jessica and Angie Arand. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard "Dick" Hoggatt, owner of Hoggatt Signs, in 2000.

June dedicated her life to enriching the lives of others around her. She was a 1954 graduate of Rosedale High School, and a 1958 graduate of Indiana State Teacher's College (now Indiana State University). She obtained her master's degree in 1966, also from ISU. She taught elementary school for 34 years in Vigo, Vermillion and Parke counties. During her teaching career, she taught at Otter Creek, Rosedale, Van Dyn, and Bridgeton schools. She had a special appreciation for history and routinely organized trips to historical sites, and invited veterans to share their experiences with her students. She also was known for her exquisite penmanship and the ability to recite poetry with emphasis and feeling from memory. She retired from Rosedale School in 2001.

June was a lifetime member of Clinton First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and sang musical specials both as a soloist and with family. In recent years, due to health concerns, she attended Rosedale Baptist Church with her son's family. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Tri Delta Sorority, and Indiana State Teacher's Association. She also was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Jerusalem Chapter 254 of Clinton, where she served as worthy matron in 1978.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Frist Funeral Home, in Clinton, with an OES memorial service at 7 p.m. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Randy McPike. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated for Community Christian School in Terre Haute.
