Wes and Jennie (Susan Jane) spent their young lives and many years of their married life in Hunter's Valley, Perry Co., PA. Mr. Billow taught school quite a few years when teachers were paid only $25 a month. He learned the plasterers' trade and did that on the side, in addition to caring for the small farm where they raised their family. On the money from a combination of those jobs, they raised their family of eight children - six boys and two girls. Wes and Susan Jane moved to Millersburg, Dauphin County, PA for several years after all their children were grown so as to be closer to several of the children. Later on, they moved to Lancaster County to be closer to two of other sons. On their one acre farmette, they grew enough produce and raised an adequate number of chickens to stock their little farm market. In Wes' senior years, he learned to weave and enjoyed constructing carpets similar to the one pictured. Wesley and Susan Jane were members of various Lutheran churches, depending upon where they lived. After they moved to Mount Joy, PA, they were members at Trinity Lutheran Church, not far from their farmette. According to his obituary, Wes was a well-loved man. A number of people from Dauphin County and Perry County traveled to Mount Joy to attend his funeral and honor their dear friend.
