On Dec. 24, 1946, she married George Chamberlain and they later moved to Iowa. George was engaged in farming. They retired to Hubbard in 1997. She enjoyed gardening, canning and crossword puzzles. June and George enjoyed a trip to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary.
June told the story often, of the time her son took off with the dog. She was in the kitchen, looked out the window, and saw her 4 year old walking down the highway almost half a mile away. He was just a speck of color on the highway, but she knew what he was wearing that day. Grampa Millard jumped in the truck to get him, and he was so angry he decided to make the boy walk all the way back to the house. When they finally arrived back home, June asked him what he was walking on the highway for and he said "the dog wanted to go there and I was following the dog."
June loved cooking and shared recipes often. In September 1994 her granddaughter Melissa, 3, was visiting. She helped Grandma by picking every tomato growing in her garden. 30 tomatoes, all green. She had them all in a line by the back door and had the biggest smile when she showed her grandma how much help she had been. Grandma eventually smiled and gave her a hug. She salvaged the tomatoes by making green tomato relish. She was a wonderful grandma.
She loved hummingbirds and decorated her house with them. She treated her children equally, with kindness and we miss her very much.
