Longtime Alaskan Virgil L. Kinney, 74, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at The Ark of Homer Assisted Living Center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. , Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Fallbrook, CA. Maurice Pelletier will officiate.

Virgil was born August 18, 1938 in Fallbrook. He moved to Alaska in 1962 and resided in Anchorage where he worked for Spenard Builder Supply. He retired in 1998.

Virgil moved to Homer in July, 2010. He enjoyed fishing, cars, music and spending time with his family.

"Dad was a quiet, simple, kindhearted man who always had a warm smile and a twinkle in his eye when he saw you. He was best known for being a hard worker and for the love he had for his family, cars, and good food. Thank you for so many wonderful memories. You will forever be in our hearts. We love you." his family said.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife Patricia J. Kinney, and his parents, Clarence G. and Jessie F. Kinney.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Bendle of Modesto, Calif., Debby Pellietier of Poulsbo, Wash., Linda Mishler of Anchor Point, Alaska; son, Shawn Kinney of Gilbert, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Pam Witte of Kenai, Alaska; granddaughters, Angela Faria, Amber Aldeguer, Megan Mishler, Kimberly Mishler, Emily Chivers and Natalie Witte all of Anchorage; grandsons. Randy Bendle of Wasila, Alaska, and Ryan Witte of Kenai, Alaska; brother, Laurence Kinney of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and sisters, Helen Burr and Barbara Thurston, both of Fallbrook, Calif.
