Donald F. ANDERSON

Born January 25, 1931 in Seattle; died November 1, 2012. Survived by his children, Kathryn Hogan, Chris Anderson (Nancy), Margaret Mechaley (Rob), and Viktoria Meyer (Bryan); grandchildren, Monica, Lauren, Robbie, Anna, Annika, and Hanna; brother-in-law Bob Risvold; nieces, Alanna Anderson, Karen Breeding (Richard), Rosemary Anderson, Ann Risvold (Larry Donovan), and Mary Williams; and a nephew David Risvold (Ann Cross). Preceded in death in 1961 by twin daughters, Suzanne and Anna; and in 1996 by Ingrid, his loving wife of 35 years.

Don spent his whole life in Seattle. He graduated from O'Dea High School in 1949 and joined the Army National Guard of Washington. He graduated from Seattle University and then worked at The Boeing Company after a few years of employment at Pacific Telephone NW. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors with the Seattle University Hiyu Coolee hiking club. He married the love of his life Ingrid Runbom in 1960. They raised four children and enjoyed socializing with their countless friends throughout the years. A highlight of the year was Don and Ingrid's annual Christmas party. Ingrid would prepare a classic Swedish jolbord and we would enjoy pickled herring, Swedish meatballs, cheeses, and other dishes while catching up with family and friends. Don married a Swede and embraced her language and heritage, but was also fiercely proud of his own Scottish and Irish ancestry. Throughout the years Don enjoyed running in many of the local fun runs, including the Dad & Me Family Classic and the Jingle Bell Run. Don retired from The Boeing Company in 1992 after 35 years of service. In January 2011 he moved from his Seattle home to Merrill Gardens at The University. The family would like to thank the residents and staff for their kindness and care. He left us a legacy of faith, love of family, service, and a strong work ethic.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 12, at 11AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 405 N 117th St, Seattle 98133. Volunteering at food banks was very important to Don. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Northwest Harvest, P.O. Box 12272, Seattle, WA 98102, or at www.northwestharvest.org.
